Dr. V.R. Roopesh Kumar

Dr. V.R. Roopesh Kumar is a distinguished Neurosurgeon with over 22 years of experience in managing complex brain and spine disorders, including neuro-oncology, skull base tumours, cerebrovascular diseases, and minimally invasive cranial surgery. Trained at NIMHANS, he has been associated with leading institutions such as NIMHANS and JIPMER.

He established the Department of Neurosurgery at JIPMER and has played a pivotal role in advancing neurosurgical practice and education in India. He has delivered more than 350 national and international lectures, organised major scientific conferences, and held leadership positions across several prestigious neurosurgical societies. He currently serves as President of the Tamil Nadu Association of Neurological Surgeons (2026–27).

An accomplished academician and researcher, Dr. Roopesh has authored over 74 peer-reviewed publications, contributed to leading neurosurgical textbooks, and serves on the editorial boards of prominent neuroscience journals. His contributions have earned him numerous national honours, including recognition as one of the Top Doctors South and several excellence awards in neurosurgery and neuro-oncology.

His surgical expertise includes over 5,000 brain and spine surgeries, with several landmark achievements, including performing the youngest awake craniotomy for a brain tumour in India, the first twin bypass surgery for Moyamoya disease in Asia, and pioneering advanced brain bypass procedures for stroke and skull base tumours.
